Small Business Magazine: Dynamic business growing fast
When Helen Jarman decided to start her own company in 1999, she was only 27 and had no clients, capitals or assets.
Less than five years later, her company - Infoactiv Logistics Solutions - boasts
over 16 staff and a client list that includes high profile names such as Hewlett-Packard, Cisco Systems and Bell Potter Securities.
Perhaps more remarkably, this has been achieved in the transportation and logistics industry, a male-dominated sector not known for readily embracing change.
Helen's efforts were recently acknowledged when she won the Victorian Westpac Business Owner Award at the 2003 Telstra Business Women's Awards.
Helen says that being young and female created many challenges, especially in the early days. "In order to win clients over, I had to literally change their mindset by demonstrating
that my unique concept provided a higher level and range of services than any competitor."
Infoactiv is already expanding into China, Japan and India, and Helen says the company is
looking to establish a permanent presence across the Asia Pacific region.
